One of the most iconic architectural projects of modernity, the Pruitt-Igoe complex in st.Louis. The images of its demolition in 1973 have become the symbol of the passage to the post modern era, according to a famous Charles Jenks’ assertion. We saw the excellent film The Pruitt-Igoe Myth at the Rotterdam Architecture Film Festival. The author does a great job collecting and editing rich archival material and documents all a long a series of very well orchestrated interviews with former inhabitants, mostly kids who grown up in Pruitt-Igoe. Interestingly enough, this documentary does not touch in any moment the architectural topic in discussing the reasons for the failure of the project, avoiding deterministic theories about the effects of spatial design on social life.
